- Nicola Volpi
Nicola Volpi was born in Milan in 1961, he holds a degree in Business Administration from the Luigi Bocconi University in Milan. After graduating Nicola obtained a Master’s Degree in Finance from SDA Bocconi.
His first work experience was as a financial analyst at Sefimeta SpA, the Financial Services division of the Montedison Group.
Sanpaolo Finance SPA
In 1987 Nicola joined Sanpaolo Finance SpA, the Investment Bank today known as Intesa Sanpaolo Group, as Head of Leveraged Finance. In this role, Nicola was, amongst other things, responsible for the financing of the first ever Buy-Outs in Italy.
As a result of his previous roles, in 1995 Nicola went on to join Schroder Associati, a company managing Private Equity funds for Italy promoted by the English investment bank, Schroders. Two years after joining the firm he became Partner.
In 1999, Nicola together with other partners of Schroder Ventures in Europe founded Permira, a company which rapidly became a leading player on the global Private Equity scene, with assets under management amounting to over 40 billion euros.
In 2005, Nicola was appointed CEO of Permira in Italy and subsequently joined the Executive Committee leading Permira worldwide.
Under Nicola's leadership, the Private Equity Fund made several successful acquisitions and divestments in Italy involving some of the most important sector-leading brands, such as Ferretti Yachts, Marazzi, Veneta Cucine, Valentino, and Sisal.
Since 2013, via Movidea, Nicola has been making equity investments, joining the capital structure of unlisted companies and aiming at supporting them in long-term growth and enhancement. Nicola is Movidea’s co-founder as well as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.
One of Movidea’s investments is a stake in the capital structure of Pagani Automobili SpA, the renowned ultra-luxury sports car manufacturer. Nicola, as Member of the Board of Directors, is responsible for providing strategic guidance and has contributed to the impressive growth of Pagani’s main KPIs in recent years.
From 2014 to 2018 Nicola was a Member of the Board of Directors of FC Internazionale S.p.A. football club where his role mainly focused on extraordinary finance, organisation and strategic planning.
Nicola Volpi promoted the strategic partnership with Public Investment Fund (“PIF”), one of the largest sovereign wealth funds in the world. Thanks to a long-term investment, the Saudi Fund became a minority shareholder in Pagani Automobili, thus sharing the company’s capital along with the Pagani family and its historical members, including Volpi himself.
VR 46 Metaverse
As lead investor at The Hundred, Nicola Volpi promoted a partnership with Valentino Rossi through the setting up of the VR46 Metaverse joint company. The startup is dedicated to design and develop content about the V46 brand in the virtual, gaming, and NTF environments.
Hobbies and interests
As a travel and sports enthusiast, Nicola very much enjoys skiing, cycling and heli-skiing. He has also spent many years nurturing his love of music and modern art.
